The production truly showcases the band's best. Whether it's session drummer Per Moller Jensen's (ex - The Haunted, ex - Invocator) experienced drumming, Palmen and Exner's huge riffs, Jorde's powerful bass, or Josefsson's amazing growls, the production not only preserves the Swedish band's past (the start of 'Dark Day Sunrise' is a must - listen!) but also keeps it modern. Few recent bands have made a record as extremely heavy as The Shadow Archetype. Similar to Evocation's previous works, The Shadow Archetype deals with topics from vocalist/lyricist Josefsson's interest in control themes. Whether it's psychological problems, drug addictions, sex, the media, or more sinister government - driven forces, the songs on Evocation's fifth full - length are more like observations from an educated adult than typical teenage fascination with gore and horror movies. Even the title, The Shadow Archetype, comes from Swiss psychologist Carl Gustav Jung's theories on psychological archetypes, where we unknowingly inherit both good and evil from our ancestors.
