For fans of Overkill, Heathen, Forbidden, and Dominance! AZRAEL, formed in 1986 by high - school friends Ken Andrews (from Obituary) and Matt Riley, released two demos early on (1987's 'Azrael' and 1988's 'Welcome'). Things really started to click when Brian Christopher, Steve Zentner, and Bob Koeble (from Death) joined in 1989 and 1990 respectively. The new lineup began creating demo material while improving their live skills by opening for bands like Death Angel, Reverend, Exodus, and Vicious Rumors. In 1990, AZRAEL recorded most of the songs that would become 'Television Slave'. Initially, they planned to use these recordings just for promotion, sending cassettes to record labels. But with no label interest, they refined the recordings for a cassette release in 1992. Amazingly, they sold all 1,000 copies of 'Television Slave', even as the music industry was moving away from heavy metal. This led the band to disband soon after. This limited - edition CD includes the original 7 tracks from the 'Television Slave' cassette, newly mastered from original digital sources. It also has several unreleased recordings from that era. As a bonus, it comes with their 1988 cassette release, 'Welcome'.
