After signing with Los Angeles-based Prosthetic Records, HAND OF KALLIACH, an Edinburgh husband - wife duo, is set to release their second album, Corryvreckan, in early 2024. They've crafted a unique mix of melodic death metal and Scottish folk music. The band's name comes from the Cailleach legend of Scottish Celtic mythology. The Cailleach lives at the bottom of the Corryvreckan whirlpool, and this album takes its name from it. As winter herald, she rises to wash her plaid in the Corryvreckan waters, and the white plaid becomes snow. Her rule ends in spring at the Bealltainn festival. The Cailleach symbolizes both death and nurturing. HAND OF KALLIACH's music revolves around these dual ideas, set against the backdrop of Scottish island history, mythology, and landscapes. Celtic and Gaelic folk elements are woven into the spectral, melodic death metal on Corryvreckan.
