Virginia Beach, VA's awesome death - metal duo FORETOKEN is back, ready to make a huge splash in 2023 with their second full - length album, 'Triumphs', set to be released on March 17 via Prosthetic Records. After their 2020 debut 'Ruin', FORETOKEN expands on their soundscapes, myth - based stories, and great musicianship in 'Triumphs'. The album uses myths and legends from Western and Middle Eastern sources to explore the overlooked costs of victory. Drawing inspiration from melodic, tech, power, folk, and black metal, Foretoken adds Scandinavian, Southeast Asian, and Middle Eastern instruments to create an amazing atmosphere in the 51 - minute album. Hannes Grossmann returns on drums, and The Black Dahlia Murder’s Brandon Ellis makes a guest appearance on the closing track 'A Tyrant Rises As Titans Fall'. The band's technical skills shine through in all nine songs. 'Triumphs' was written in 2021 by Steve Redmond (guitar and orchestration) and Dan Cooley (vocals), with eight original songs and a cover of Naglfar’s 'I Am Vengeance'. Grossmann recorded the drums at his studio, Mordor Sounds, Redmond did the guitar recording, and Tony Petrocelly captured the vocals at Trepan Studios. Jacob Hansen (Arch Enemy, Fleshgod Apocalypse, etc.) handled the mixing and mastering at Hansen Studios. The album's cover, painted by Tomas Honz, shows a post - battle journey, symbolizing the duo's love for historical tales. FORETOKEN's 'Triumphs' is both ambitious and well - crafted in music and songwriting.
