Product Description
After signing with Los Angeles-based Prosthetic Records, HAND OF KALLIACH, an Edinburgh husband - wife duo, is set to release their second album, Corryvreckan, in early 2024. Their music combines melodic death metal with Scottish folk music in a unique way. The band's name comes from the legend of the Cailleach, the ancient winter witch - god in Scottish Celtic mythology. The Cailleach lives at the bottom of the Corryvreckan whirlpool between Scotland's western isles, which gives the album its name. As winter's herald, she rises to wash her plaid in the whirlpool waters, and the white plaid becomes snow. Her rule ends in spring. The Cailleach represents both death and nurturing. HAND OF KALLIACH's music is centered on these dual concepts, set against the backdrop of Scottish island history, mythology, and landscapes. The album is filled with Celtic and Gaelic folk elements combined with spectral melodic death metal. Blending death - metal brutality with folk's ethereal essence makes it a captivating listen. Recorded at Sphynx Studios in Brighton, UK, by Wynter Prior, Corryvreckan takes you on a fantastical journey through ancient tales and progressive modern metal, with meticulous attention to detail bringing every element to life.
