Instead of the punk - driven powerviolence of their past work, they've embraced the rich heritage of American rock and roll, adding their own unique FUNERAL CHIC touch. The swagger of proto - punk legends The Stooges and The New York Dolls infuses their revitalized sound, especially on their cover of Roky Erickson’s Two Headed Dog. The intense energy of early thrash and black metal also shines through. This time, the lyrics take a more personal turn, though still full of passion. As some band members have chosen sobriety in recent years, the anger once masked by alcohol now fuels the lyrics of Roman Candle. The album is a collection of ten stories filled with sweat and sharp aggression, set against the backdrop of a global identity crisis. Recorded at Legit Biz in Greensboro, NC with engineer Kris Hilbert, FUNERAL CHIC guitarist Robert Stroud supervised the production. Matt Russell mixed the album, and Brad Boatright mastered it at Audiosiege. In creating Roman Candle, FUNERAL CHIC has shed its old self and emerged anew. The album captures the wild and unpredictable nature of modern - day America through a blend of aggressive punk, sleazy Americana, and raw heavy metal.
