The band was formed in 2007 by Phil Tougas (Chthe'ilist, Atramentus, Funebrarum) and brothers Gabriel Brault - Pilon and David AB. From the start, they aimed to create a unique extreme technical death - metal style. They combined counterpoint - based riffs, neoclassical lead guitar, power - metal - inspired parts, and flamenco and swing sections to stand out in the Quebec music scene. Their 2016 debut album 'Dasein', released by Unique Leader, was the result of nearly 10 years of hard work, building on their 2010 self - released EP 'The Afterthought Ecstasy'. Since then, First Fragment has refined their sound by expanding on their musical influences, blurring the lines between flamenco - inspired technical death metal and neoclassical power metal.
