On this second album, FIRES IN THE DISTANCE builds on their musical base of melancholic melodies, powerful guitar riffs, and complex atmospherics. Throughout the six tracks of Air Not Meant For Us, the band combines deep personal thoughts about mental health and existential themes like the awareness of mortality, all while emphasizing the importance of perseverance.
Teaming up with Randy Slaugh, a well - known producer from Salt Lake City who has worked with Devin Townsend, Tesseract, and White Moth Black Butterfly, chief songwriter Yegor Savonin (responsible for composition, guitars, programming, and lyrics) aimed to enhance the band's signature melodic death and doom metal sound. The addition of live orchestration with violas, violins, cellos, and piano playing turned out to be a very successful collaboration for both the band and the producer.
