It's been nearly five years since their last studio album, Misotheism, and now they're ready to reveal this new masterpiece. HOUR OF PENANCE says, 'Devotion is our ode to the futility of war, with no hope at the end. The album's main theme is the misdirected loyalty people give to leaders who send us to death under the guise of democracy, driven only by imperialist desires and greed. The faceless crowd in the artwork worships these false idols.' Musically, it builds on the band's 20 - year - old fast - paced style, adding more technicality and catchiness, along with epic musical landscapes. HOUR OF PENANCE, formed in 1999, is a blackened technical and brutal death metal band from Italy, widely regarded as one of the most intense and talented in the genre. After three albums, they went from local fame to an international following, touring across Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, and Asia with heavyweights like Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder, Devildriver, Deicide, Nile, and Behemoth. They've always crafted a complex, crushing, and precise death - metal sound. While being extremely fast and brutal, they also use insightful social metaphors in their music and lyrics. The new album 'Devotion' features long - standing members Giulio Moschini (guitars), Paolo Pieri (vocals & guitars), and Marco Mastrobuono (bass), along with new drummer Giacomo Torti.
