L.A.'s FUTURE USSES offer an astonishing instrumental album of extremely heavy, oppressively slow, yet glistening and rich sludge - paced rock, filtered through a nightmarish psychedelic lens. It's hard to believe that 'The Existential Haunting' is their debut album, as the three - piece's sound is so astute, shrewd, and sophisticated. Main songwriter Sacha Dunable, a 15 - year member of INTRONAUT, has also explored various doom metal projects like BEREFT (LA). FUTURE USSES take small elements from these bands, magnify them, and blend the slow - motion crushing force of doom with INTRONAUT's atmosphere and dense harmonic qualities. Drums and guitar were recorded at Clearlake Audio in Los Angeles with Josh Newell (INTRONAUT, CYNIC), Derek Donley (INTRONAUT, BEREFT), and bass with Jon Nunez (TORCHE). Mixing was done by CONVERGE'S Kurt Ballou at God City Studio. The band's lush guitar sound is built around live guitar loops, as Sacha Dunable says, 'which presents limitations but also endless opportunities'. Making an instrumental record allows the band to focus on setting a vibe that listeners can interpret through their own imagination.
